Description
Carving of a bear and rugged staff (coat of arms of Lord Leicester) on the outside wall of Lord Leycester hospital, built in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, this timber framed medieval building was converted in the sixteenth century by the Earl of Leicester (Elizabeth I's favourite friend) from a Guildhall to a hospital (retirement home) for wounded soldiers, which it still is today.
