Bombo - Traditional shelter made by field workers in Tomelloso #60521664
Description
Traditional stone dome house called Bombo from Tomelloso, Castilla La Mancha, Spain. This rehabilitated whitewashed construction is set at a ploughed field with the furrows circling it. The Bombo is seen from its back under a bright sun shining at the upper left corner of the image. A Bombo is a shelter, mainly to keep cool in very hot weather, made by vineyard workers with the stones they collect from the field they plough. The distinctness of this hand-made architectural construction is that it is built without any kind of mortar, not even at its vaulted roof. The construction technique is intricate and remains shrouded in mystery.
