Description
Kaas Plateau, situated in the Western Ghat Sahyadri range in Maharashtra state of India, is famous for Pleocaulus Ritchei (also known as Nilgirianthus Reticulatus or Mal Karvi or Topli Karvi), an intriguing plant that explodes into masses of flowers once in 7 years. This shrub belongs to the genus Strobilanthes. Kaas is known for various types of wild flowers which bloom during August-September every year and turn it into a Valley of Flowers. More than 850 species of flowering plants are reported in Kaas. It has been declared as Biodiversity World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
