Description
Ethiopia, Afar region: The Afar, an ethnic group of semi-nomadic cattle farmers in the vicinity of Awasch are affected by of an impending famine by drought, climate change and massive death of their livestock. The scarcity of water, drinking water, is huge and women have to walk for hours to come to a water source. These women and a girl fetching water from a well. However, the water level is lowered so that the water pump stops working and they need ropes, buckets and pulley from the depths can still get some drinking water upwards. This work they perform in the scorching heat of the Danakil Desert. They fetch water with yellow jugs of the Red Cross, which they received at the food distribution, emergency aid. Due to global warming and El Nino the region is plagued by persistent drought, droughts.
