Pegasus (in Greek mythology) is a winged horse that sprang from the blood of the Gorgon Medusa as she was beheaded by Perseus. The symbol of the poetic inspiration (Pierian spring) for (according to the legends) everywhere the winged horse struck his hoof to the earth, an inspiring spring burst forth.
