Zurich/Zurigo in Switzerland #6434755
Description
Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and capital of the canton of Zurich. The city is the Cultural Capital of Switzerland, the political capital of Switzerland being Bern. Zurich can be counted as one of the world's preeminent global cities. Zurich is also known as the city with the best quality of life in the world. The earliest known form of the city's name is Turicum. Neither the name's linguistic origin (Rhaetic or Celtic) nor its meaning can be determined with certainty. A possibility is derivation from Turicon, from the Gaulish personal name Turos. The city is situated where the river Limmat issues from the north-western end of Lake Zurich (Zurichsee), about 30 km north of the Alps. Behind the first line of buildings you can see The Fraumunster abbey of Zurich, founded in 853 by Louis the German for his daughter Hildegard.
