Bangladeshi Women Washing Clothes In A Lake Editorial Photo

BANGLADESH, Tangail city: Two Hindu Bangladeshi women in colorful traditional clothing with headscarf are washing at the waterfront of a lake, clothes, laundry, in their neighborhood Harijan Palli. These women belong to a group of Harijans. The Harijan belong the lowest caste and are very poor and have to live in shabby houses. For these housewives this housework belongs to daily life, everyday housekeeping. With a part of the laundry, however, they earn some money, because they wash also for other people. A Woman soaps the clothes with soap on a stone. The soap floats on the water.
