She was in previews of the smash musical Annie which won her the 1977 Tony Award in the category of Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Musical for her portrayal of Miss Hannigan. She appeared in tv, often in comic roles (The Garry Moore Show). She made numerous Broadway appearances and won a Drama Desk Award for The Fig Leaves are Falling. Loudon died in New York at 78 from cancer on November 15, 2003.
