The Orthodox icon. The icon in Christianity (mainly Orthodox, Catholic and ancient Oriental churches) the Holy image of persons or events of biblical or Church history. Art in the icons are usually referred to as image, made in the framework of the Eastern Christian tradition on a hard surface (mostly on Linden Board, covered with gesso, that is, alabaster, diluted with liquid glue) and is equipped with special labels and signs.
