In the centre of the old town of Pau, in Bearn , stands the castle of Pau, famous for having seen the birth of the King of France and Navarre, Henry IV . This castle today bears the marks of this imposing presence: the various representations of the good king Henry adorns the walls on all sides. But the castle, much older in fact than the association of Navarre and French kingdoms, carries with it the tormented brands in modern history, under the benevolent figure of the «green gallant”. It was named as a historical monument in 1840 and 2004.
