Description
Copper horseman is a monument to Peter I on a Senatskaya Square in St.-Petersburg. The monument has received the name thanks to well-known to A.S.Pushkin's poem "The Copper Horseman" though actually it is made of bronze. Peter's equestrian statue is executed by sculptor Ãâ°tienne Maurice Falconet in 1768-1770. Peter's head was moulded by schoolgirl Falkonet, Marie-Anne Collot. The snake, on a plan of Falkonet has moulded by F. Gordeyev. Casting of a statue under the direction of master Emelyan Khailov has been finished in 1778. The monument has been solemnly opened on August, 7th, 1782.
