Description
Pelican in a Russian zoo. Pelicans (lat. Pelecanus is a genus of birds, the only one in the family Pelikanova (Pelecanidae Rafinesque, 1815) squad pelecanoides. Includes 8 species. Pelicans sporadically distributed in temperate and tropical zones of all continents except Antarctica. In Russia there are 2 species: pink (Pelecanus onocrotalus) and Dalmatian Pelican (Pelecanus crispus). The temperate species are migratory. The appearance of a very typical Pelican: clumsy, massive body, large wings, short and thick legs with a wide membrane between the toes, the short rounded tail. The neck is long. The bill is long, up to 47 cm, with a hook on the end. On the underside of the beak, highly tensile leather bag, used for catching fish.
