Description
One of the statues of Ramses II at the magnificent ruins of the Great Temple of Ramses II at Abu Simbel in Egypt. Built on the west bank of the River Nile between 1274 and 1244 BC, it was largely seen as a monument constructed by the pharoh to glorify himself. It was swallowd up by the moving desert sands and remained hidden until its rediscovery in 1813. The temple was relocated to higher land after construction of the Aswan High Dam.
