Since 1980 the island has been connected to mainland Croatia via the Krk Bridge. Originally a walled town, Vrbnik was established in medieval times. It has a population of 944. The Vrbnik Statute was written in 1388, and confirms the status of Vrbnik as an administrative and political center. The town is also known through the folksong VerbniÃÂe nad moren or VerbniÃÂe nad moru (Oh Vrbnik over the Sea). Notable Residents of Vrbnik are Josip BozaniÃâ¡ - Archbishop of Zagreb, Cardinal-Priest of Saint Jerome of the Croats and Zlatko Sudac - Roman Catholic Priest. CAPTION - Tourists at the beach.
