Prayer wheels aside Wanla Gompa, Ladakh #7718729
Description
If you want to get a nice impression of Ladakh, you will be obliged to travel on foot to reach some regions. A nice form of this sort of travelling are trekkings. Most of those trekkings start at Lamayuru and return all the way to Leh, across the Zanskar river, the Markha Valley and Hemis. The first stop on this route is Wanla, with its ancient monastery, overlooking the valley. Typical for buddhist temples and monasteries of the Gelukpa Order are the prayer wheels. They are filled with hundreds of prayers, which are believed to be sent out by turning around the wheels.
