Description
The Pont du Gard is a Roman engineering and artistic edifice built during the 1st century AD. The bridge-like structure spans the Gardon River and is part of a 50 km long aqueduct that supplied the city of Nîmes, formerly known as Nemausus, with water. The three-level aqueduct towers 50 m high and survives as a technological marvel to the world today.
