Railroad switch in the Port of Antwerp #7994764
Description
Detail of a manual switch located in the Port of Antwerp (together with Rotterdam and Hamburg amongst the most important of Europe). To be able to transport the cargo that arrived by boat, roads alone are not sufficient. Since the beginnings of the railroads in Europe (beginning of the 19th century), tracks were laid in the port to meet the needs of transport over land. At some places like these remainings of that time are still visible. This is a picture of the manual mechanic to change the direction of the switch.
