Huge pile of salt near Aigues-Mortes, Camargue, France #80202315
Description
The salt of Aigues-Mortes, probably used since ancient times, attracted fishermen and salt workers. The Benedictine monks settled nearby in the 8th century at the Abbey of Psalmodiet to exploit this valuable commodity in the Peccais Ponds. The salt has long been one of the main resources of the city.
