Description
Base of a bald cypress tree, Taxodium distichum, in Corkscrew Swamp, Florida. There is an orange algae growing on the bark of the tree. It is Trentepohlia, which is actually a member of the green algae phylum. The orange pigment is similar to that in carrots, beta carotene. There are ferns at the base of the tree.
