Heel Stone At Stonehenge Stock Image

The Heel Stone or Hele/Heal Stone, sometimes also called `The Friar`s Heel` is a natural stone at Stonehenge. Unlike the stones of the inner monument the Heel Stone is unworked, the top of the stone is naturally pointed, possible indicating an earlier date. It lies about 250 meters away to the northeast from the centre of the stone circle; at the top of the Avenue, fractionally to the east of the main solstitial axis.
