Description
The MuCEM, devoted to European and Mediterranean civilisations, in the french city of Marseille was inaugurated on 7 June 2013 as part of Marseille-Provence 2013, a year when Marseille was designated as the European Capital of Culture. On the left Marseille Cathedral, a Roman Catholic cathedral, and a national monument of France. It has been a basilica minor since 1896 and the seat of the Archdiocese of Marseille formerly the Diocese of Marseille until its elevation in 1948. On the right Fort Saint-Jean, a fortification built in 1660 by Louis XIV at the entrance to the Old Port.
