Description
Next to the Holy Cave stands the Monastery of San Pedro, inhabited by a community of religious. King Alfonso I and his wife Dona Hermesinda, in order to give a continuous service to the Mother of God, founded a monastery. The foundation charter attributed to Alfonso I exposes how he renders the church to the Benedictine monks, and brings the list of donations of objects for worship and privileges. It is signed by the King and Queen, three bishops, two abbots and some knights.
