On Avery Island, Louisiana there is a bird city, where the owner hoped to save the snowy egrets. Women wanted plumes from the birds, to adorn their hats. To supply the demand the bird numbers had dropped dramatically. Edward Avery McIllhenny decided to create a nesting place for the birds, hoping to save the population.
