Description
Calcutta Bamboo is the common name for Dendrocalamus strictus , a bamboo species. The stems are often solid. It is a tall, dull green-colored species of bamboo that grow in thickets consisting of large number of heavily branched, closely growing stems. The green stems are covered with white blooms which turn green on maturity and brown when dying. They are used for making house frames, rafters, tent poles, walls, scaffolding and fence posts. They can be used for a variety of crafts such as bird houses, plant hangers and candle holders.
