Desolated traffic exchanger never to be finished #8558565
Description
During the 60's and 70's a real explosion of highway constructions happened in Belgium, as in the neighbouring countries. Especially in Belgium, some of those big infrastructures were built to connect all the small and big cities so that every place and every city centre would be reachable by car, following the ideas of the 60's. With the oil crisis of '73, a lot of the work in progress for these highways was stopped and, in some cases, left unfinished. This picture has been taken at the edge of Brussels, at the end of the highway between Brussels and Antwerp - and the Netherlands - that should have been extended to the city centre, but instead stopped just behind the ring road around Brussels. At this moment, the bridge from which is taken this picture is being transformed to be used for the high speed railway link between Brussels and the Netherlands.
