Tibetan Buddhist Monastery Royalty-Free Stock Photography

This is the famous Songzhanling Monastery near Zhongdian. The monestary had two consecutive Dalai Lamas living in it in the 14th and 15th century. During the cultural revolution some of the monestary was destoryed - it is now being rebuilt by the town. The main part of the monastery is ontop of the hill and the houses below are where the monks live. The monks rely on the towns folk and tourists completely for their livelyhood. Consequently they live a pretty simple life.
