Description
This is a medium-sized alligator with a rather long, narrowed front muzzle and large teeth. The body weight of most adults varies from 7 to 40 kg. Caymans from Venezuela are larger than the samples from Mexico. One of the names of this species `spectacled caiman` comes from the presence of a bone ridge between the eyes. Young caimans have a yellow color with black spots and stripes throughout the body; Adults - olive-green. Are capable to change a little the color that is provided by cells-melanofors of a skin. So, in cold weather, they become darker. Caiman sub-species differ in color, size and shape of the skull.
