Description
Monument Nakhimov set in the center of Sevastopol Nakhimov Square in honor of an outstanding Russian naval commander Pavel Stepanovich Nakhimov. The monument was opened on 18 November 1898 to the 45th anniversary of the Battle of Sinop. The monument - an amateur artist, Gen. Alexander Bilderling and sculptor Ivan Schroeder. Nakhimov The sculpture is made in full growth. The figure is dressed in an overcoat. In his right hand sculpture telescope. The left hand rests on the sea broadswords. In a first embodiment of the monument it was not the sword, and the sword of Osman Pasha, who was a trophy of battle of Sinope. On the pedestal attached three high relief. They depict episodes from the biography of Nakhimov: `Battle of Sinop`, `On the 4th bastion` and `Conversation with sailors Nakhimov`. Sculpture and high relief made of bronze. The pedestal is made of polished granite. The total height of the monument is 13.5 meters.
