Phoenix, Arizona: Doug Hyde Sculpture - The Code Talker, 1989 #90258295
Description

This sculpture in Phoenix, Arizona/USA Thomas Road/Central Avenue was created by sculptor Doug Hyde, a resident of Santa Fe, New Mexico. He was born in Hermiston, Oregon into the Nez Perce tribe. The sculpture - cast in bronze - is a tribute to the 400 U.S. Marines who served their country during World War II. Their mission: to utilize the Navajo language as an unbreakable secret code. The Navajo Code Talkers used this code to provide a secure method of communication. Among many native Americans, the flute is a means of signalling the end of confrontation. This sculpture wants to advance the idea of peace for all future generations. Information based on the text of the plaque at the side of the sculpture foundation. Please check out another sculpture of Doug Hyde in my portfolio!
