Exploded Puffball Mushroom Royalty-Free Stock Photo

These little puffballs exploded after the rains. Puffballs are edible in the U.K but can be confused with young emerging mushrooms which can be poisonous. Puffballs do not have gills and store all the spores inside the body until the rains come. Once the rain hits the puffball it explodes spores everywhere. This picture shows what they look like after the rains have hit them. These grow in late spring but you can sometimes see them throughout the hot months.
