S. Maria Giacobbe, Pale Stock Image

Hermitage of Santa Maria of Jacob XIII century, accessible from Pale for a steep path along the wall of the mountain. Tradition says that here retired in penitence Maria di Giacobbe, one of the holy women. Inside are frescoes dating from the thirteenth to the sixteenth century: in one of these also appears the Holy Grail cup. In the past the place was guarded by a hermit hence the name of Pale
