Sweet Little African Girl Overjoyed With First Soft Toy Editorial Photo

This tender image always makes me smile as I remember it like yesterday. This beautiful sweet little child was so thrilled, overjoyed and filled with so much happiness after she received her first gift and her first soft toy doll. The little girl started immediately cradling the soft knitted toy doll like it was her baby and gave me the sweetest look and smile that I will ever remember. This image was taken on the ground at Karamoja in Uganda, Africa while we were doing aid relief work there. We had visited this remote village with supplies of soap, dried beans, salt, sugar and clothing but I also had a huge bag of beautiful hand knitted soft toys dolls that a lady had especially done for me for this trip. It had not rained in this village for 2 years and the river bed was completely dried up except for one small pool of water left which was guarded night and day. All of the villagers were suffering from hunger, poverty and in need of medical care. We did all we could, but really it was a drop in the ocean compared with the need.
