Â& x29;ÃÂ inÃÂ Wakayama,ÃÂ Wakayama Prefecture,ÃÂ Japan, sits at the mouth of the Kii River. Originally Ã
Åta castle, home of theÃÂ Saiga Ikki, it was captured byÃÂ Toyotomi HideyoshiÃÂ in 1585, during theÃÂ Siege of Negoro-ji; manyÃÂ monks from Negoro-jiÃÂ sought refuge in Ã
Åta, which was soon destroyed by flood. Hideyoshi ordered the building of dams on three sides of the castle, focusing the rainwaters and diverting the river to ruin the castle. As hunger set in, the samurai, monks, and peasants inside Ã
Åta surrendered, and fiftyÃÂ warrior monksÃÂ led a final suicidal charge against Hideyoshi& x27;s army.
