Mathias Church - Budapest - hungary The most important and most cherished church in Budapest is the Matthias Church on Szentaromsag square. The square is named after the Holy Trinity Column that stands in its centre and the church itself stood on this site ever since the 13th century. During the Turkish occupation it was the High Mosque and after that it was rebuilt in a Baroque form. The inside of the church is overwhelming with Gothic arches and splendid columns. Because of its great acoustics, the church has long been an important venue for concerts.
