Description
Carving of a man named Sala, legendary founder of Hoysala Dynasty, who fought and killed a tiger to save his master. Hoysalas ruled a large part of the Deccan, comprising present day Karnataka, parts of Tamilnadu and Andhra Pradesh, between 10th and 14th century AD. Carvings found at the ruins of Halebedu, one of their early capitals, are of soapstone. Many of them are damaged, vandalized by the later invading Muslim hordes from the north.
