The Main Tower of the Temple to Lord Brihadeswara in Thanjavur, Tamilnadu. India. Commonly known as the Big Temple, the Temple is dedicated to the Hindu Deity, Lord Shiva, or Brihadeshwara. Beautifully carved images of Gods & Goddesses decorate the Tower. According to the Temple inscriptions, it was completed around 1010 AD, during the reign of the Tamil Cholan king, Raja Raja Cholan. It took several years to complete, moving the huge granite blocks, weighing several tons, into place and is a masterpiece of engineering and architecture. It is a major tourist attraction even now.
