Moorhens belong to the family Rails (Rallidae) and are commonly found in ponds, streams, or rivers, both in the countryside as well as urban areas of England. This photograph was taken in a London waterway. They feed on almost anything; plants, grasses, insects,seeds, fruits, snails and fish. Mostly resident, they can be spotted at any time of day, round the year. Latin name is Gallinula chloropus.
