The sculpture were build in 1940, three years after the new bridge across Ångermanälven was finished. The first idea was to build the sculpture on top of one of the columns in the old bridge but the sculpture was to heavy. A new column were built at the same spot. On the column, seventeen carvings can be seen depicting scenery from the river and the forest. The artist behind the sculpture is Fredrik Frisendahl 1891-1984. He was born in the village Näsåker as the youngest of three brothers. All of them were famous sculptors.
