Sati is an obsolete Hindu funeral custom where a widow immolates herself on her husband`s pyre or commits suicide in another fashion shortly after her husband`s death. A memorial stone in honor of the sati woman used to be installed during medieval times, which later would become a place or temple of warship in respect of the sati woman.
