Description

Site of the Homestake Gold Mine. This gold mine closed in 2002, but the building and display near the actual, very large hole is an incredible place to visit. Tourists can look down into the massive site from the back of the visito`s center. The gold deposit was discovered by Fred and Moses Manuel, Alex Engh and Hank Harley in April 1876 during the Black Hills Gold Rush. The visitor center offers displays with the history of the gold mine, gift shop and viewing windows.
