Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary #98434617
Description
In 1721 on the Vasilievsky Island, in accordance with the decree of Peter I, the construction of the bishops` archipelago of the members of the Holy Synod began. The building at the corner of the Neva embankment and the 15th line was purchased from the Naryshkins by the Trinity-Sergius Monastery. However, by the middle of the XVIII century the monastery moved its farmstead to the embankment of the Fontanka River and left a rebuilt house with the house church of the Nativity of Christ on Vasilievsky Island. In 1756 in the `St. Petersburg Gazette` was published an announcement on the sale of the first building. For ten years the farmstead could only lease the Academy of Sciences, the buyer was not found. This situation led to the fact that on 10 21 April 1721, Catherine II issued a decree on the transfer of the building of the Pskov diocese for the establishment of a monastery
