Former New York Congresswoman Elizabeth Holtzman addresses an audience at the Jewish Community Center in West Orange, New Jersey on November 19, 1996. Holtzman, the first woman to serve as Brooklyn District Attorney, 1st female New York City Comptroller and was at the time, the youngest woman elected to the US Congress at age 31. She served 4 terms in the House, from 1973-1981, and narrowly lost a US Senate race to Republican Alphonse D`Amato. She was a liberal reformer championing clean government and had an active role in the Nixon Watergate investigation.
