Description

The embankments of the river Tiber - room dedicated to the urban transformations of the modern Rome on the third floor of Palazzo Braschi today Museum of Rome, Italy. Room 18 is dedicated to one of the most important urban changes of the city: the river Tiber once known for its floods before being confined between high stone embankments which were begun in 1876. The rooms 16-17-18-19 of the third floor document Rome`s urban evolution in the late eighteenths and the early years of nineteenth century ending with the radical transformations imposed by the fascism. The rooms conserve fragments of the buildings survived to the demolitions. Located in the heart of Renaissance Rome, between Piazza Navona and Corso Vittorio Emanuele II Palazzo Braschi was the last palace builded for a nephew of a pope, Pius VII, in 18th century. From 1952 it houses the Museum of Rome that reconstruct the urban changes and conserves important testimonies of building and places lost in time.
