Deep sea recovery vehicle Mystic is designed to make deep sea rescue recovery from a disabled submarine. The official name is DSRV-1 and goes by the unofficial name of Mystic after the village of Mystic, Connecticut. Built by Lockheed Missiles and Space Company, in Sunnyvale, California. Mystic was launched 24 January 1970 and retired from service 1 October 2008. It is 30.5 tons surfaced, and 37 tons submerged with a length of 49 ft. Powered by electric motors, silver-zinc batteries, one shaft, and four thrusters. It can dive to a depth of 5,000 feet and could carry 24 passengers at a time, in addition to her crew. She was stationed at Naval Air Station North Island in San Diego and was never required to conduct an actual rescue operation. In 2014, the submarine was donated to the Naval Undersea Museum located in Poulsbo, near Bremerton, Washington.
