Israel`s Minister of Education and Culture, Yitzhak Navon, and colleagues have a genial meeting with Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher during the British Prime Minister`s official visit, the first one to Israel by a sitting UK leader, on May 25, 1986. During the session Navon explained the crucial role that ORT plays in Israel and Thatcher expressed her interest in the projects. The organization is very involved in science and technology instruction and training from grade school to the college level. Navon, a member of the Labor Party, served as a Member of the Knesset, Deputy Prime Minister, and President of Israel, the first native-born president of the nation, during his long and productive career. He died on November 7, 2015 at the age of 94. Thatcher, the `Iron Lady,` Tory Party leader, died on April 8, 2013 at the age of 87.
