The bridges on the Lungotevere in Rome #240131631
Description
ââ¬Å½The ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½bridges of Romeââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½ were built from ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½Roman timesââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½ onwards on the ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½Tiberââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½ and ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½Anieneââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½ rivers. ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½The first bridges were made of ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½woodââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½, starting with the ancient ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½Sublicio bridgeââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½, and only later in ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½masonryââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½. Most of the bridges built in Roman times no longer exist or only remains survive; others were totally rebuilt over the centuries, especially under the ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½Papal Statesââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½. Numerous bridges arose after the ââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½unification of Italyââ¬Å½Ã¢â¬Å½ and in contemporary times, especially for reasons of automotive viability.ââ¬Å½
