‎The ‎‎bridges of Rome‎‎ were built from ‎‎Roman times‎‎ onwards on the ‎‎Tiber‎‎ and ‎‎Aniene‎‎ rivers. ‎‎The first bridges were made of ‎‎wood‎‎, starting with the ancient ‎‎Sublicio bridge‎‎, and only later in ‎‎masonry‎‎. Most of the bridges built in Roman times no longer exist or only remains survive; others were totally rebuilt over the centuries, especially under the ‎‎Papal States‎‎. Numerous bridges arose after the ‎‎unification of Italy‎‎ and in contemporary times, especially for reasons of automotive viability.‎
