Limestone statue of Hathor and the Sandstone Chapel inside the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, Egypt. #250285825
Description
Pictured is the limestone statue of Hathor and the Sandstone Chapel inside the Museum of Egyptian Antiquities in Cairo, Egypt. Hathor was a major goddess in ancient Egyptian religion. She was often depicted as a cow, symbolizing her maternal and celestial aspect. She has the cartouche of King Amenophis II, successor of Tuthmosis III on the back of her neck, and is probably guarding Tuthmosis III himself under her chin. The museum was built in 1901 to a design by French architect Marcel Dourgnon. In 2022, the museum is due to be superseded by the newer and larger Grand Egyptian Museum at Giza.
