Description
Pictured is a portion of the Beltline Mural by Tommy Weddle depicting prairie scenes and wetlands from Grand Prairie's frontier days. In this section a large herd of bisons is grazing and taking water. The mural is painted on the walls of the I-30 bridge over Belt Line and spans 618 feet of concrete. The painting was started in 2003 and finished in 2004 in time to commemorate the Breeder's Cup Thoroughbred Horse Race at Lone Star Park that year. The iconic public art treasure was restored in 2020 by Fine Art Conservation Lab, Inc. Tommy Weddle, the artist was born on April 14th, 1947 and passed away on Monday, January 23, 2017. The mural is part of the public art collection of Grand Prairie.
