Crissy Air Field Presidio San Francisco 9 #284621644
Description
By 1900 air flight was still very new,and dangerous. Still, some saw the possibility in it and would do anything to pursue it. By 1919,the Presidio had an airfield, and needed to see how well the planes, and men, could handle transcontinental flights. Two groups of teams were set up to try it out,one group flying from Long Island,New York to San Francisco, the other from San Francisco to Long island. There were many accidents along the way,but only one fatality. Majr Dana Crissy and his observer,V. Thomas were the only ones not to return.
